Q: Do I have to be a YMCA member? A: Yes. Everyone who participates on the YMCA team needs to be a member, because the swim team is nationally recognized. We will compete against teams from around Northwest Ohio, Ohio, Five state area, and nationally. In order to keep everyone on the same level, everyone who participates in any YMCA swim team must be a full member. Q: Can my child still join the swim team? A: Yes your child can still join, we will be accepting new swimmers until the end of October. Keep in mind if you are planning to join it would be helpful if you turn in your registration form and meet sign up sheet as soon as possible. Q: How many meets do I have to attend? A: In order to compete in the Sectional and Championship meets at the end of the season, you need to swim in three meets. After those three meets it is up to you. Q: How do I know if my child is ready to swim in a meet? A: Your child is ready! As the coach I will only put your child in a event that I know he/she can complete. Sometimes swimmers do not think they are ready to swim the event that they are entered in. This is a mindset and most of the time they need to complete that event before they think they can do it. Once again I will only put them in events I know they can do. Q: How do I know if my child is ready to be on the swim team? I ask that the child be able to swim on their stomach and back all the way down the pool. It does not have to look pretty, they just have to do it. Q: What equipment is needed to swim? A: A swim suit, whatever you have. We do have team suits, but they are not required. Most swimmers do have goggles, these help them to see underwater without getting water in their eyes (most of the time). Girls do use caps and we do have team caps, but are not required. Caps will help keep their hair out of their faces. Q: What do I bring to a swim meet? A: Two or three towels, sweat shirt, extra pants, or T-shirts. Be sure to bring some sort of sandal or shoe, most YMCA's ask that we have shoes on while walking around the building.
